Program Director Welcome Letter
Welcome to the OMECO/OSU Family Medicine Residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma! We hope you
find our website full of specific information about our program, residents, and faculty.
We’d like for you to see not only the information you need, but also what makes our
training environment at OSU such a wonderful place.
Our program is sponsored by Oklahoma State University and is associated with the largest
osteopathic training hospital in the United States. All of our residents learn full-spectrum
family medicine and are able to succeed in any type of practice they desire at the
end of their three years with us. Our graduates have gone on to practice in areas
such as outpatient Family Medicine, inpatient Family Medicine, a combination of both,
urgent care, and Emergency Medicine. Additionally, we have had multiple graduates
enter fellowships in Sports Medicine, OBGYN, OMM, Palliative Care, and Emergency Medicine.
We have a 100% first time Family Medicine Board Pass Rate.
We recognize that there are a multitude of excellent family medicine training options
in the country. Why choose us? There are many reasons, but the most important is the
people. When we ask residents, faculty, and staff what they most like about our residency
program, the answer is universally “the people” and the sense of belonging to a learning
community that feels like a family. Other great aspects of our program include a Clinical
Pharmacist as part of our faculty, a wide range of pathology to which our residents
are exposed, and the opportunity to care for multiple different underserved populations.
Additionally, our program has a dedicated Wellness curriculum to help our residents
get through the stresses of residency.
For those of you who don’t yet know Tulsa, it’s a great city in which to do your training!
Tulsa has many of the benefits of a big city (museums, opera and ballet companies,
a plethora of concert venues, multiple professional sports teams, and a great local
food scene) with the perks of a small town including a low cost of living and low
commute times. Tulsa also has over 50 miles of trails for walking, cycling, and running.
Tulsa’s Gathering Place is a must-see and was ranked the best city park in the nation
by USA Today.
Thank you for taking a look at our program. If you have any questions that aren’t
answered on our website, please reach out to us!
Sincerely,
Amanda Carey, D.O.
