Urban Underserved Medical Track
Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine has a mission to produce primary care physicians for rural, tribal, and urban underserved areas and communities across Oklahoma and the country. OSU’s mission aims to improve the primary care physician workforce shortages faced by urban health care systems. To prepare doctors for a successful matriculation into urban underserved communities and health systems, OSU-COM offers a dynamic Urban Underserved Medical Track. For the medical students who are interested in health disparities in urban areas it creates a diverse pathway to serve urban underserved communities as primary care physicians.
Benefits include:
- Unique hands-on training and experience with physicians who understand the challenges and benefits of practicing in urban underserved health systems
- Special rotation reserved only for UUMT students only at an urban clinic during their third year of medical school
- UUMT students have the opportunity to participate in urban residency tours, and take part in relevant learning experiences
- Learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion in urban underserved and often overlooked populations
- Learn about health disparities among urban populations
