Clinical Training Sites

The clinical experience represents an exciting opportunity for athletic training students to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom, lab and simulation centerto practical patient care situations. Under the direct supervision of a BOC certified athletic trainer or other approved healthcare preceptor, students develop their clinical skills in injury & illness prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, counseling, administration and education of patients. The precptor serves as a supervisor, instructor and mentor to the student as they progress through this process.

While at the OSU Center for Health Sciences, students will be assigned to several clinical preceptors. Many of these clinical preceptors supervise a number of traditional athletic populations throughout the course of a season. However, to broaden the students' health care experience in the athletic training profession, there are several clinical sites and preceptors within the non-traditional settings including medical centers, rehabilitation clinics, occupational medicine, military and other health care settings.
