M.S. in Forensic Sciences - Forensic Document Examination (Online)

The OSU School of Forensic Sciences offers a M.S. in Forensic Sciences with a specialization in forensic document examination. This is a non-thesis track that provides academic studies for individuals pursuing apprenticeship or journeyman programs that prepare document examiners, trainees and laboratory interns for certification. This degree does not result in professional certification.

Admissions

Two years of training under the mentorship of a qualified document examiner or professional experience is required for admissions. Application materials must be submitted online through the OSU Graduate College.

Tuition Waiver Information

  • Waivers for the non-resident portion of tuition may be available for residents of Academic Common Market (ACM) states.
  • In addition to Oklahoma, ACM states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
  • Consultation with your respective state coordinator for eligibility will be required upon admission to the program.

Academics

Curriculum - 

Our curriculum offers a solid background in forensic sciences and specialized courses in forensic handwriting analysis, criminalistics, evidence analysis and technical aspects of forensic documentation examination.

Creative Experience -

The creative experience for students in these options covers one to three course credits, depending on the weight of the project.

 

During the final semester, the student will present information on the creative experience in a public forum, which can be facilitated via video conference or other electronic means, and will field questions from the audience. Afterward, the student will meet privately to discuss the project with their graduate advisory committee.

Degree Requirements

  • Must maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average throughout the program
  • Satisfactory completion of 39 graduate credit hours
  • Satisfactory completion of a creative experience
  • Participation in graduate seminars
  • Satisfactory completion of a comprehensive exam
  • All courses and requirements must be completed within 7 years of admissions

Requirements for Internet Courses

The program includes a significant number of Internet courses that require self-direction and computer skills. Students must have the ability to be self-directed and to assume greater responsibility for independent reading, course communications, collaborative learning, written assignments, and research projects.  In addition, participants must have computer skills, appropriate equipment, and Internet/e-mail access needed for online courses. Internet courses require no on-campus attendance, although some courses offered on campus may have Internet components. An additional “off-campus” fee is charged for online courses.
