Year 3 Residents

Haley Blumfelder, D.O.

Haley Blumfelder, D.O.

I am originally from Bryant, AR. I went to University of Arkansas for undergrad, and stayed in Arkansas for medical school at Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine! My current plans following residency are for outpatient pediatrics, but I am keeping an open mind. I have wanted to be a pediatrician for as long as I can remember, but one of the reasons I chose pediatrics is that, in my opinion (although I may be biased), it’s the happiest specialty! A fun fact about myself is that I was a member of the University of Arkansas Pom Squad (dance team).

Joshua Marsh, D.O.

Joshua Marsh, D.O.

I am originally from Woodbine Maryland. From there I moved to Utah to attend BYU. I worked several years as a medical laboratory scientist. I then moved to Washington state with my wife where I obtained a masters degree in medical science and finally my medical degree from Pacific Northwest University. I have always wanted to be a pediatrician because I love working with kids, and it is here I believe I will be able to make the most positive impact. After residency I am exploring options to be a pediatric infectious disease, or outpatient clinic. Fun fact about myself is that I love exploring with my wife and 3 kids.

Emma Miller, D.O.

Emma Miller, D.O.

I went to medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine New York - Harlem campus. I went to undergrad at University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. My hometown is San Francisco, CA. After residency, I am leaning toward general pediatrics, but I am keeping an open mind and have some interest in the Post Pediatric Portal Program for Child Psychiatry. I played competitive soccer my whole life and love exercising and playing tennis during my free time. My favorite thing about Pediatrics is being able to help kids play and be active. My favorite thing about the OSU Pediatrics residency is the welcoming, supportive, and nurturing environment of all my fellow co-residents and attendings!

Katie Thompson, D.O.

Katie Thompson, D.O.

I am originally from Elk City, OK. I went to Oklahoma State University for undergrad and attended Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. I plan to do general pediatrics after residency. I chose pediatrics because I have always enjoyed working with children and I want to be an advocate for every aspect of their health. A fun fact about me is that I am a huge college sports fan (Go Pokes!)

Melanie Bennett, D.O.

Melanie Bennett, D.O.

I went to medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I attended undergrad at Loyola University Maryland. My hometown is Jackson, New Jersey. I’ve always said that my desire to do pediatrics is a selfish one because I get way more from the kids than they’ll ever get from me. They are just so resilient, and they smile while facing the unthinkable because they don’t know how to be a victim of their circumstances. Even on the hardest days, they help me find joy. After residency, I’m interested in pursuing a heme/onc fellowship. I used to be a camp counselor for pediatric cancer camps back home and those kiddos & their stories wiggled their way into my heart. A fun fact about me is that my family has EIGHT (yes you read that correctly) dogs and they are all beagles. I grew up hunting with my dad & brother and raising rabbit dogs has become quite the family tradition.

Marija Rowane, D.O.

Marija Rowane, D.O.

I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I went to Case Western Reserve University for undergrad and attended Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Athens Campus, for medical school. After residency, I am open to learning and exploring diverse academic/ career paths after residency. My current fellowship interests are Allergy & Immunology and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), with a balance of clinical practice and research. I chose pediatrics because Working in pediatrics brings me joy, witnessing kids' growth and physical/ physiological resiliency. Pediatricians have the honor and opportunity to shape kids' lives early on and help guide them and their families on a healthier lifestyle pathway. Fun fact about myself is I enjoy playing piano and flute, as a former Music Major. I also have dual citizenship, in the USA of course and in Slovenija, which is a small, beautiful country along the Julian Alps in the heart of Europe.

Rebekah Sook, D.O.

Rebekah Sook, D.O.

I am originally from Midwest City, OK. I went to Oklahoma State University for undergrad and went to Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. I am not sure exactly what I want to do after residency, but think I probably want to work in an outpatient pediatric clinic. I chose pediatrics because kids are the best! They are so honest, funny, and make the long hard days worth it. Fun fact about me is I LOVE OSU! In fact, I haven’t missed a Greatest Homecoming Celebration since 2012 even when living in a different state. I actually got engaged in front of the Orange Fountain.

Daniel Higgins, D.O.

Daniel Higgins, D.O.

I went to college at Carson-Newman University and then pursued medical school at Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. I’m originally from Chattanooga, TN and even though I stayed in TN for college and medical school, I couldn’t have been more excited for the chance to move to Tulsa for this next part of the adventure! I haven’t decided what to pursue after residency but am interested in potentially pursuing either pediatric hospitalist or neonatologist. I chose pediatrics because out of all the specialties I considered pediatrics was always the one that felt most natural and happy to me, not to mention we have the cutest patients! One fun fact about me is that I taught myself to play two different instruments in high school (Guitar and drums).

Jared Rollins, D.O.

Jared Rollins, D.O.

I went to medical school at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. I went to undergrad at the University of Kentucky. My hometown is Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. After residency, I am undecided but am considering pursuing a fellowship in cardiology. A fun fact about myself is that I love spending time outdoors with my dog, Ranger, and my fiancée.

Phillip Hilton, D.O.

Phillip Hilton, D.O.

I’m from Sandy, Utah. I received my undergrad from Southern Utah University and attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic medicine for medical school. I chose Pediatrics because I enjoy the broad spectrum of physiology involved in pediatrics and rapid changes involved in growing up, from embryology in neonates to puberty in teenagers. I was first attracted to OSU and its long osteopathic history. Having gone to medical school at the birthplace of osteopathy, I wanted to go to a program where I was welcomed as a D.O. and could further fine-tune my osteopathic approach to medicine. Fun fact about me: What do Lego, Flamingos, and Taco Bell have in common? These are a few of my favorite things.

AshLeigh Kohley, D.O.

AshLeigh Kohley, D.O.

I am originally from Zebulon, North Carolina. I went to Missouri Southern State University for undergrad and attended Kansas City University in Joplin for medical school. My current plans following residency is fellowship in neurology or psychiatry and expanding our family. I chose pediatrics because the days fly by when you’re working with the littles! Fun fact about myself is I love kayaking and watching horror movies.

Nicole Fazekas-Woolwine, D.O.

Nicole Fazekas-Woolwine, D.O.

I went to medical school at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and completed undergrad at Virginia Tech in Biological Systems Engineering. My hometown is Ashburn, VA. I am considering general outpatient pediatrics or a fellowship in neonatology or pediatric hematology/oncology after residency. However, I am keeping an open mind to other specialties as well! I chose Pediatrics because I absolutely adore working with children and know that I will be happy every day going to work! I love to bring a smile to their faces at every visit and I hope to make a positive impact on each child and their family. A fun fact about me is that in high school I wrote and e-published my own novel!

Year 2 Residents

Beatrice Garrido, D.O.

Beatrice Garrido, D.O.

I grew up near Ft. Lauderdale in South Florida and am an all-around beach girl/water girl, so it's funny I am doing residency in a landlocked state. I do not regret coming to OSU; I really like this program, especially the people I have met. Everyone is so pleasant to work with and they have been so supportive throughout this transition from medical school to residency. I've known for a long time that I wanted to work with the pediatric population so applying peds was a no-brainer for me. There is so much impact we can have as pediatricians in the lives of future generations. We can create health awareness early on in the lives of our patients which can lead to healthy futures. I am from the Dominican Republic and am fluent in Spanish so I love serving the Hispanic population and allowing those with language/culture barriers to have full access to healthcare.

Rachel Wilks, D.O.

Rachel Wilks, D.O.

A current OSU Pediatric resident. She received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree at Pacific Northwest University of College of Health sciences. She has her Bachelor of Science degree in BioHealth Sciences along with a Minor in Public Health from Oregon State University. She was born and raised in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and lived in Washington State during her medical education. She finds all aspects of pediatrics interesting but has a special place in her heart for osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT), sports medicine and adolescent women’s health. When she is not working, she finds herself outdoors continually trying to find the next best outdoor adventure. Once the mud has been kicked from her hiking shoes, she dons an apron and gets flour deep in baking anything from pastries to cookies to cakes. Her favorite thing to do is decorate cakes for all occasions and host her friends and family for any occasion/holiday.

Evan Ward, D.O.

Evan Ward, D.O.

I went to medical school at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, in San Antonio, TX. I went to undergrad at Baylor University, sic ‘em. I chose pediatrics because it was the one specialty I was excited to wake up early and go to work every morning. I’m not sure yet what I want to do after residency, but as long as I’m taking care of kiddos, I’ll be happy. I’m thankful to be a part of OSU Pediatrics because everyone is supportive and genuinely wants to see you succeed here.

Christina Sanchez, D.O.

Christina Sanchez, D.O.

I grew up in the southern most tip of Texas but moved to San Antonio for college and stayed for medical school. I graduated from The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. I chose Pediatrics because I wanted to surround myself with brave kids. This is my first time away from home, but I’m having a great time with my new OSU fam. When I’m not working I’m hanging out with my 2 dogs. We like to run outside and make new friends.

Wilson Sprinkles, D.O.

Wilson Sprinkles, D.O.

I grew up in the community of Porter, Oklahoma, a small rural town southeast of the Tulsa metro in Wagoner County. I graduated from Porter High School in 2010 and pursued my undergraduate degree at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Medical/Molecular Biology in 2014 and then took a few years off from academia to work as a pharmacy technician. I returned to school in 2016 to pursue a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and graduated in 2018. Shortly after that, I began my medical school career as a student at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. During my time as a student at OSU-COM, I was active as a student ambassador, president of the Pediatrics Club, and a teaching assistant for the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine lab. I pursued a career in pediatric medicine because I love children and hope to make an impactful difference in the lives of the families I meet along my journey. In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of interests and hobbies. I love to read and enjoy a variety of genres, but science fiction and fantasy are my favorites. I collect comic books, love playing my Nintendo Switch, and rarely miss seeing the latest Marvel film in theaters. I enjoy cooking and trying new foods and restaurants and consider myself a big foodie. My favorite treats always involve cinnamon, and my favorite season is autumn. I am so excited to continue my medical education as an OSU Cowboy and cannot wait to serve Tulsa’s families and children!

Spandana Sama, D.O.

Spandana Sama, D.O.

I am originally from Fremont, CA and went to undergrad at UC Davis. I completed medical school at Kansas City University. I knew from early on I always wanted to be a pediatrician, and I am so glad that I am fulfilling my dream at OSU Pediatrics. My favorite part of this program is the camaraderie I share with my co-residents. After I complete residency, I would like to try to pursue a fellowship or a job that allows me to practice a mix of inpatient and outpatient pediatrics. I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with friends during my spare time.

Jocelyn Wey, D.O.

Jocelyn Wey, D.O.

My hometown is Dallas, TX. I attended University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. I chose OSU pediatrics because of its unique environment, the resident dynamics, and the way in which OMM is integrated into the program. Currently, I plan to practice general pediatrics after residency, and may potentially pursue a fellowship in obesity medicine. I have always enjoyed working with children and want to continue to guide their healthcare so that they have a strong foundation in which to enter adulthood with. In my spare time I like to be active outside, playing golf or hiking, attending concerts, and spending time with family and friends.

Jared Grant, D.O.

Jared Grant, D.O.

I am originally from Portland, Oregon and attended Oregon State University where I studied Biology and Chemistry as an undergraduate. I continued my medical education at Western University of the Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest. I have always wanted to be a pediatrician. Working with kids has been very rewarding - they never cease to brighten my day. I love hiking, attempting to cook, and everything football. Go Packers!

Krisha Chowdhury, D.O.

Krisha Chowdhury, D.O.

I went to medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and St. Mary’s University for undergrad. My hometown is San Antonio, TX. I chose Pediatrics because I found I was the happiest working with this population and their guardians. I felt I could help make the greatest impact on younger generations and promote healthy lifestyles. For fun I love painting, exploring vintage shops, and playing with my 2 cats!
