Program Director Welcome Letter

Doctor Bode

Welcome to Oklahoma State University, home of the OMECO/OSU Pediatric Residency programs in Tulsa, OK!

Our hope is that our website is not only helpful for finding specific information about our program but that you are able to see what makes our training environment at OSU such a wonderful place as you accomplish your goals and dreams of becoming a pediatric physician!

We are sponsored by Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma, with training completed at The Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis, OSU Medical Center and OSU Pediatrics Clinic.  This affords our resident physicians a “best of both worlds” training experience. All of our residents receive rich experiential learning in the full-spectrum of pediatric medicine, including neonatal care, community medicine, and tremendous experience in outpatient and inpatient pediatric medicine, with an emphasis on osteopathic philosophy and practices. At the same time, our Oklahoma State University connection gives our residents access to significant academic and wellness resources, as well as teaching and outreach opportunities.  Our diverse and talented faculty wear many hats: they teach and represent osteopathic pediatricians at state and national meetings, are recognized leaders in the community and are passionate advocates for whole-person-based primary care.

For those of you who don’t yet know Tulsa, it’s a great city in which to do your training!  Tulsa has many of the benefits of a big city with a metro area just over 1 million people -- a rich arts and culture scene with museums, music, festivals and great local food & restaurants, with the perks of a small community including a low cost of living and low commute times.  Being outdoors and active in Tulsa is a popular past-time with over 50 miles of trails for running, walking and cycling, and Tulsa’s Gathering Place next to the Arkansas River and RiverParks is a must-see.

We recognize that there are a multitude of excellent pediatric medicine training options in the country.  Why choose us?  One simple answer – the people. We are passionate about what we do and whom we serve.  When we ask residents, faculty, and staff what they most like about our residency program, the answer is universally “the people” and the sense of belonging to a learning community that feels like a family.  We want to continue to attract people who share our dedication to serving those who need it the most.  If you are committed to caring for the underserved and seek training in an academically rigorous yet “hands-on” learning environment, please be sure to contact us.  We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm with you.

Sincerely,

Laura Bode, D.O.
Pediatric Residency Program Director
