- Dr. Jason Beaman – Interim Chair of the School of Forensic Sciences
Dr. Jason Beaman currently serves as the Interim Chair of the School of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Beaman completed medical school at Oklahoma State University - Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa. He then completed two simultaneous residencies in Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. After residency, he completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University and subsequently obtained board certification in Addiction Medicine. After fellowship, he obtained a Master of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Florida with an emphasis in forensics and a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Beaman served as the Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Oklahoma State University for 8 years before moving to the School of Forensic Sciences. He currently serves as the Assistant Program Director for the OSU Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. While chair of psychiatry, Dr. Beaman created the Project Blue Streets Task Force which established a city-wide protocol for care of mental health patients and testified against Johnson & Johnson in the State opioid litigation. He is active in research in the areas of criminal behavior, the intersection of methamphetamine and violence, and epidemiology of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
- Dr. John Frucci – Assistant Professor
Dr. John Frucci is an Assistant Professor of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (OSU-CHS), where he specializes in research and instruction in fire and explosives investigation, including post-blast investigations. Dr. Frucci started with the School of Forensic Sciences in 2013 as the Program Director of the Arson, Explosive, Firearms and Tool Marks Investigation option as well as the Forensic Investigative Sciences track. Dr. Frucci is the Director of the Center for Fire & Explosives, Forensic Investigations Training & Research (CENFEX) and of the OSU Global Consortium for Explosive Hazard Mitigation.
Dr. Frucci began his law enforcement career in 1992 in Newark, NJ and was initially assigned to the uniform division. Dr. Frucci was promoted to Detective in ‘94 - assigned to the fugitive squad. In ‘96 he transferred to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Case Unit. In 2000, Dr. Frucci was transferred to the Bomb Unit. Dr. Frucci became a full-time FBI Certified Bomb Technician and completed his career as the Commander of the Bomb Squad. Dr. Frucci worked with the NJ Render Safe Task Force which was part of the NY/NJ FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force during that time. Dr. Frucci currently serves as the International Director for the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators and has been a member for over 25 years.
Dr. Frucci earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University as well as a Master of Arts and an Education Specialist degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Seton Hall University. Dr. Frucci completed his Doctor of Education (EdD) in School Administration at Oklahoma State University. Additionally, Dr. Frucci holds a Master of Science degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Explosives Engineering and Technology.
- Dr. Jun Fu – Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Jun Fu is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (OSU-CHS), where she specializes in research and instruction in the Forensic Biology/DNA track. Dr. Fu directs the AABB-accredited OSU Human Identity Testing laboratory. In addition to routine DNA relationship testing for legal and immigration cases using the ABI 3500 Genetic Analyzer, the lab specializes in the identification of aged and weathered skeletal remains. The lab has obtained successful DNA profiles from remains found in Lake Mead, including one case linked to a person missing since 1974. The Human Identity Lab is currently developing forensic genealogy testing using a Whole Genome Sequencing method on the Illumina NextSeq 1000 sequencing system.
Dr. Fu has been the Director Designee for the Human Identity Testing laboratory from 2007 to 2022, performing casework and research. One of her research projects involved studying the degradation pattern of mRNA from dried body fluid stains to estimate the age of the samples. Prior to joining OSU CHS, she worked as a Research Associate at Clinical Biochemical Genetics lab at H.A. Chapman Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her responsibilities included biochemical genetics testing, including amnio acid analysis and PKU confirmation/follow-up testing.
Dr. Fu earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Oklahoma State University and Bachelor of Science in Polymer Sciences from Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
- Dr. Matthew Green – Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Matthew Green is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University – Center for Health Sciences (OSU-CHS), where he specializes in research and instruction in explosives, pyrotechnic, and forensic chemistries. Dr. Green developed and runs the Fire and Explosives Research Laboratory, which focuses on both identification and sensitivity testing of energetic materials. He provides training to law enforcement and military personnel on the chemistry of pyrotechnics and explosives, including hands-on demonstrations and mixing of a wide variety of fuel and oxidizer mixtures.
Dr. Green has developed coursework in pyrotechnic chemistry and explosives research and testing at Oklahoma State University. He has directed and assisted with many research projects at the OSU Explosives Training and Research Range. Dr. Green also serves as a visiting chemist instructor for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). He serves this role for the ATF’s Homemade Explosives and Raven’s Challenge courses. Dr. Green is also involved with several groups that meet to discuss explosives, testing, evaluations, and improvements for the field.
Dr. Green formerly served in chemist positions in toxicology and forensic laboratories. In these positions, he was involved with many research projects relating to analytical instrumentation, drugs and explosives syntheses, clandestine laboratories, and environmental detection. Dr. Green earned a PhD in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences, Master of Science in Forensic Sciences and Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Toxicology from Oklahoma State University and BS from Ohio Northern University.
- Dr. Jarrad Wagner – Professor
Dr. Jarrad Wagner is a Professor of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (OSU-CHS), where he specializes in research and instruction in Forensic Toxicology and Trace Analytical Chemistry, including post-blast investigations and clandestine laboratories. Dr. Wagner founded the OSU Forensic Toxicology and Trace Laboratory at OSU where he focuses on analytical method development and applications with a variety of advanced chromatographic techniques and supervises research in clandestine laboratory and post blast scenarios. He provides training to federal, state, and local personnel on illicit drug laboratories and in the recognition of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) clandestine laboratories, namely those of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, or Explosive (CBRNE) nature.
He has developed coursework in improvised explosives at Oklahoma State University and in support of FBI training programs. He has carried out numerous research projects related to the synthesis and detection of these materials. He has served on numerous review panels, both for grant funding as well as performance reviews, specifically in the area of explosive detection and analysis. He provides law enforcement training and demonstrations in many clandestine drug synthesis techniques, and still responds to clandestine laboratories in support of state and local agencies.
Dr. Wagner served as the Director of the State of Oklahoma Public Health Laboratory during the COVID-19 pandemic. He formerly served as a Chemist in the Hazardous Materials Response Unit of the FBI Laboratory, where he specialized in crime scene investigations involving hazardous materials throughout the world. Prior to the FBI, his law enforcement experience includes his time as a Forensic Scientist in the Toxicology section of the Orange County (CA) Sheriff-Coroner’s office and his service as a Reserve Police Officer in the City of Irvine, CA. Dr. Wagner earned a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from the University of California at Irvine and undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry.
